OS 11 Retired

We're sorry to say that the OS 11 Project had to be retired because of a server hardware error.  We lost our source code backups and were unable to find another recent copy.  The OS 11 download links are now disabled, possibly forever, because of the beta time-based limitations we are unable to release an extended version, so the most recent beta release is now permanently obsolete.  We may some day recreate OS 11, but with the lack of interest in the project, we are unsure that it is necessary.  Also, with the introduction of open-source CloudOS in CloudDev, and the newly started joint company XusixTech, we will be continuing development of other operating systems, 32-bit Windows applications, and advanced online services.

Major Bug Fix and Update

We were very unhappy to find that the automatic updating no longer worked after we updated our servers, but since it isn't something we can fix, we've fixed up the OS to use an auto-update we wrote ourselves, instead of using Microsoft's basic one. A new version will be available later today, which will require you to first uninstall any version of OS 11 you already have installed, and then install the new OS version.

Beta 3 Patch

We have released an important patch/update for Alanaktion OS 11 Beta 3. If you already have a copy of Alanaktion OS 11 installed, you must un-install it before installing the patch. You will not lose any user settings by patching. After installing the patch, Alanaktion OS 11 will automatically update until the Beta 3 trial is over.

With the release of the third Beta version, we have done much more testing on other operating systems. These are the testing results:
This program only runs well on Windows Vista and 7. Windows XP will have trouble with the UI effects, and will have very poor performance. This also applies to running Vista or 7 without Windows Aero (Glass Windows) enabled. We've found that Aero keeps the window animations more stable, and allows more advanced transparency effects. Although the UI will appear the same whether running Aero or not, without Aero, the animations (including moving a window, opening menus, etc.) perform very poorly.

Don't forget, the beta will expire June 1, 2010.

Beta 2 Released

The Beta version of Alanaktion OS 11 version 11.2.18.379 is now available for anyone to download.  They are available in compressed .zip files which can be opened directly in Windows XP, Vista, and 7, or by using a program such as WinZip or 7-Zip.

Online Installation (Requires access to Microsoft.com)

          Full Installation (Offline)

This Beta release is a close preview of what the final release will be like, but it may have several errors in it.  This is the reason for the Beta.  If you find an error you can comment on this post about your problem or send information about your problem to alanaktion@yahoo.com.  We will hopefully be able to perfect the OS through the release of this Beta, but if several problems still exist, the release will have to be extended.

The Beta has been fully tested in Windows Vista and 7, and has had the essential tests for Windows XP and ME, however Windows ME may have some errors when trying to run more advanced features such as the new FileExplorer and the window fading animations.

.NET Framework 3.5 and New FileExplorer

We reverted back to .NET version 3.5 to save space and increase compatability.  We also re-made the FileExplorer with a brand new engine that is easier to use and runs more programs correctly.  It also has attribute control allowing you to choose whether to show or hide system files, hidden files, and read only files.

New Compilation Method

Now when the new builds are compiled, they will run through the Microsoft SDK Bootstrapper allowing them to automatically install all of the prerequisite files when the OS is installed, without the need of a connection to the internet.  This way, the OS can be distributed on a CD and run on any computer with Windows ME, 2000, XP, Vista, or 7.  Yes the OS has actually been tested on Windows 7, and it works perfectly.

New compile tested on Windows XP, Vista, and 7 with no installation or runtime errors.

Compatability Update

The installers for the key Windows components required are now included in the Alanaktion OS 11 Installer.  This will make the OS compatable for Windows ME, XP, Vista, and 7.

Redo

I completely rebuilt the entire OS using the old one as a reference only, and I must say the redone version has no bugs including even the huge personalization problems that supposedly could not be fixed. I spent over two hours late last night into the morning writing the new personalization codes, and everything works great.  This morning I added the new Gadget add on, similar to Windows Sidebar.

Settings Update

Added new personalization features such as backgrounds with styles and animation.
Also fixed global/user only setting bugs (a setting that was meant for all users would only be applied to the current user, now fixed).

The starting of an amazing new OS.

Finally we got it, now we can take programming to the next level. Microsoft Visual Studio 2008.

So far, a full new User Interface with semi-transparency and full smooth animations. The UI is also easier to use and responds better and faster while looking more clean than anything we've made before. The login has an auto-complete for usernames that have been used recently, and it keeps setting data more securely, actually embedding it in the program.
